How to optimize e-commerce operations with RFID

1. Inventory management


Inventory management is one of the challenges faced by most retailers. Through e-commerce, retailers should only provide products with inventory, and even, ideally, should show consumers the exact quantity of inventory. Therefore, it is very important for retailers to accurately grasp the inventory of goods.
RFID is currently mainly used by retailers to handle inventory management. You may be very familiar with UPC barcodes, which are found on the vast majority of retail products. This is the barcode you scanned during checkout, although most people are not very familiar with the internal workings of UPC barcodes. In short, these barcodes consist of two main information elements: 1) the company to which the product belongs, and 2) a number that identifies the specific product. The barcode reading system can decode this information and translate it into information that we can understand. The corresponding RFID code used by retailers is called SGTIN-96, which contains the same information, plus a unique serial number, applicable to all instances of the product. Through the simple sliding of RFID readers, retailers can view the complete inventory count of specific products.

2. Inventory location


If consumers want to purchase this product, they will check if it is available on the retailer's online shopping website and then place an order to purchase. Retailers must immediately confirm the location of their products in order to fulfill orders, which is the second major challenge that RFID can solve. Most retailers use RAIN RFID to address this issue. By using RAIN RFID, you can determine the approximate location of the product, and then use a handheld reader to enter the so-called "Geiger calculator mode". The staff can track the location of the product, search for it, and select it to complete your order.


RFID also comes in handy when consumers order multiple sets of products that can only be obtained from different inventory locations. The goods usually go through the picking process and are processed through the system to complete the order, which may involve merging into a single shipment or shipping separately to deliver to the customer. By attaching RFID tags to each item, it is possible to quickly verify whether all merged shipments contain the correct products before shipment. If the project needs to be shipped separately, each batch of goods only needs to be verified and inspected as part of the total order. This technology helps retailers operate throughout the year, especially during peak seasons.

3. Inventory loss


RFID can help retailers solve the long-standing shrinkage problem. We define loss as any item that is lost, stolen, or misplaced. Traditionally, RAIN RFID is not used for anti-theft purposes. However, in recent years, anti-theft solutions using RFID have been constantly emerging and have the opportunity to become a convention. However, RAIN RFID does help identify where wear typically occurs and any significant patterns. If a product * last appeared at position X but disappeared before reaching position Y, retailers can quickly investigate the loss of the product in the area between positions X and Y. If an item is repeatedly lost at a specific location on a certain day and/or time of the week, retailers have a follow-up pattern to follow. This helps retailers reduce losses in a more effective way while creating better workflows and faster transportation and logistics.
